January 1, 2013. Danco Coast
We wake up just in time to be able to run and get breakfast before they will close. The Captain woke us up at 8:00 am. to tell us where we were, I took a photo and follow sleeping because we got late to bed last night.
We are at the Antartctic Peninsula right at Palmer Archipelago. The area is very interesting, plenty of icebergs, whales and penguins on the icebergs.
An expedition of scientists from the USA Palmer station come to make a presentation on what they do.
Later, we have lunch watching all the things we said before. Then, Pamela goes to play trivia and comes back saying that they couldn’t do much.
Today we arrived to the most southern place we are visiting, 65º 11’ South. We have been navigating along the Lemaire Canal.
The Captain tells us that we will leave the scientists back in their place at 20:00 h.
We have dinner with another six people, a couple living in Florida, another from Australia and two single ladies, one from Toronto and another lady from Edmonton. We always have animated chats in these ocassions. Everybody is interested in Mexico and they also tell a lot of interesting things about their trips.
Later, there is a show, again with the black lady peforming days ago and singing very well.
January 2, 2013. Paradise Harbor, Cuverville Island
The Captain wakes us today very early in order for us to be able to see Paradise Harbor, a very nice bay where the Argentinian base, Almirant Brown, is. Nobody is there now. It is right beside a couple of impressive glaciers and the bay is incredible. We are not there long because another ship is coming after us, following the same route. It seems that the activity here, in the South, has been increasing more than what I consider appropriate for this very sensitive area.
Later, we go by Cuverville Island, another paradise place, plenty of whales and penguins everywhere. After a while upstairs, watching the scenery, we go downstairs to the pool area to sleep in a lounge chair. Later, we have a salad before going downstairs for trivia. We got there late and didn’t have our normal place, so we go with another group. We hardly know any answer.
Later, we go to deck 11, to have lunch, and we find Noemi and eat talking to her and then Bill comes. Then, everyone goes to their place for a nap.
Today the show is earlier, and later there is the Black and White Ball in the Crow’s Nest (I don’t know what it is).
We have dinner today with another six Canadians, and the chat is about Canada, and the education system, because there is at least one teacher, from Regina, who was born in Moosejaw.
We go later to the show, which again is Juan Pablo Subirana, Cuban having an American Passport now, and living in Miami, Cuban capital city as he says. Then, we go to deck 12, where the black and white ball is (they call it this way because captain and officials go with their gala uniforms). The Captain opens the dance with Noemi and later Pamela and myself get a photo with him. We have a drink and Pamela talks to Bill. It is very noisy. Then we go downstairs, finish watching a very silly movie on the TV and go to sleep.
